Online Private Chat is Privacy

It is undoubtedly violated the right to privacy that private online chat of a female employee was monitored and spreaded by the computer surveillance department of an international bank in Shanghai.

The bank said there have three excuses as why have to monitor what employees say on MSN. Firstly, the bank is afraid of leaking business secrets by MSN when its employees used the chatting tool. Secondly, the computers belongs to the bank, so it has the discretion over how to use the coputers. Thirdly, the bank told all employees that MSN can't be used for private chat.

It sounds reasonable?!

You could monitor what I say, but you must not spread my private affairs without my prior consent. And if I was caught leaking business secrets on MSN, you could call the police.

Yes, the bank owns the computers. But it only means no one can take them home or damage them intentionally. Not means that a corporation can monitor and spread whatever an employee says on MSN.

The third excuse seems powerful. But the punishment for using MSN for private purpose is to deduct an amount of the salary or bonus because they are not focused on work.

In no case should the bank spread what is its employees' private affairs against their will.

This makes me remember that several yeas ago, a middle school played the record that a pair of a girl and a boy kissed in classroom. It happened in Shanghai. It is occasion?

High tech make sus live more modern, but more of our privacy loses.

How should we do? Be going to monitor? Or take other styles?
