Google Settles Suit Over Book-Scanning

Settling a legal battle, Google reached an agreement with book publishers and authors that clears the way for both sides to more easily profit from digital versions of printed books.

The agreement, under which Google would pay $125 million to settle two copyright lawsuits over its book-scanning efforts, would allow it to make millions of out-of-print books available for reading and purchasing online.

I think this is good to two sides, google, and authors or publishers. Google can get profit from online search. Authors can become well known through Internet. Since Internet was a information center, book dealers/publishers sell books, magzines, journals on-line. More successful is the marketing.

It also has advantages to readers, because they have chance to read some out-of-print books of digital version online.

the book scanning technology can make people read the book with their original style: formats, style, etc. readers can preview it, then make a decision whether buy it or not.
